This picture, taken in the Funchal Botanical Garden on Madeira, shows some fairly small plants of  A. plicatilis - with the distinctive flat leaves - in the foreground with various other Aloes behind. A. plicatilis comes from South Africa and grows into a tree like plant up to 5m (16 feet) tall.
