Aeonium arboreum v atropurpureum

Aeonium arboreum v atropurpureum

Aeoniums are members of the family "Crassulaceae" and, although naturalised in many countries, they are generally native to the Macaronesian Islands (Canary Islands, Madeira, etc.). Several species are in widespread cultivation, two of the most common being the large flat headed A. tabuliforme and this one, A. arboreum v atropurpureum with its dark purplish-black heads.

The plant pictured was photographed in the Palheiro Ferreiro Gardens, near to Funchal on Madeira.
